Noah Webster Academy's Dresscode
Uniform Dress Code Policy
The Noah Webster Academy Board has determined there will be a Uniform Dress Code at Noah Webster Academy (NWA). The advantage of a uniform dress code provides
for simplicity, ease, and keeps the focus on education. Uniform dress improves the classroom learning environment; builds citizenship and a sense of community; and assists parents and families. Uniform dress is unifying to
the group, while encouraging the individuality of thought, character, and wisdom to shine to its greatest capacity.
General Information
Uniform dress is mandatory and must be worn during
school hours, except under special circumstances as announced
by the school. School sponsored t-shirts may be
worn on Friday and are encouraged on Field Trips.
Dress code violation procedures are as follows:
First offense: Teachers give scholars a verbal warning.
Second offense: Teacher sends a note home to parents.
Third offense: Parents called and scholar changes before returning to class.
It is the responsibility of the parent to make sure that the proper uniform is consistently worn to school.
Items not specifically covered, but considered inappropriate or contrary to the uniform policy, are subject to review
by the Administration and School Governing Board.
Appearance: Children must present a clean, modest, and neat appearance at all times. Shirts must have sleeves and be collared, shoes must be tied or fastened, clothing must
be worn right-side-out. All clothing must be clean, appropriately sized and worn correctly. No “low-riding” of pants, skirts, skorts, or shorts is allowed. Clothing shall not
ripped. Uniforms may have the approved school logo. Uniform
items must be must be solid-colored except for the
approved plaid. Khaki and navy blue pants and hunter
green, white, or navy blue tops are required. The optional
plaid “Hunter/Classic Navy” is acceptable. Corduroy is
acceptable for pants or skirts. Jeans or any denim item(s),
and any pants/shorts with cargo or carpenter style external
pockets are prohibited.
Footwear: Shoes should be conservative in style. Boys
and girls may wear non-distracting athletic or dress shoes.
Heelys and all shoes with wheels are strictly prohibited.
Closed toed and closed heel shoes only. Heels or soles may
not be higher than 2 inches. Sandals, flip-flop, slippers,
and dance footwear, are prohibited at all times.
Socks: Socks or tights must always be worn. Socks should
coordinate with the uniform: navy, khaki, hunter green or
white. Girls may also wear appropriate smooth opaque or
cable knit tights or leggings in navy, hunter green or white.
Knee-high socks with skirts and skorts are acceptable.
Belts: Belts must be black, brown or neutral in color.
Underclothing: Underclothing should not be visible. Plain
white undershirts worn under uniform shirts should be
tucked in. Girls are encouraged to wear bike shorts under
skirts and jumpers that are not visible below the hem.
Hemlines: The hemlines in jumpers, skirts, shorts and
skorts should be knee length or longer. A good guideline
is that the hemline touch the bend in the back of the knee.
Please be sure to take into consideration shrinkage.
Jewelry, etc.: All jewelry must not be a distraction to the
educational environment of the class or school. Girls may
wear one pair of earrings on their ear lobes. Boys may not
wear earrings. No body piercing is allowed. Items of medical
or religious significance are acceptable. Sunglasses
should not be worn inside the school building.
